Why it's more dangerous for children and older pedestrians
The proposed design adds multiple new crossings along Oxford Street so that pedestrians have to walk to new 'island' bus stops positioned in the middle of the road. While this may look efficient on a plan, in reality it means more people, including children, prams, and older residents, having to navigate across cycle lanes and live traffic more often. With additional crossings at nearly every bus stop, Oxford street will become increasingly confusing to move through safely. The Oxford St Cycleway makes it less safe for all users, cyclists, pedestrians and commuters alike.
